Obituary
Born on Saturday, January 10, 1948 in Somerset, he was a son of the late Chester E. and Martha P. Bush Whipkey. He was also preceded in death by two siblings, Patricia A. Gearhart and Dale E. Whipkey; and a nephew, Joseph H. Gearhart. Richard was a veteran of the United States Army, a member of the American Legion Post #14, and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars #2506. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and enjoyed collecting stamps. He worked for Consolidated Freightways for 30 years and Snyder’s of Hanover for 10 years.
Survivors in addition to his wife of 47.5 years include three brothers, Chester E. Whipkey II, of Duquesne, Robert D. Whipkey and his wife, Mary, of Apollo, and Thomas D. Whipkey, of Three Springs; a sister-in-law, Joyce Whipkey, of Duquesne; many wonderful friends; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Panebaker Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover, PA 17331 with The Rev. Msgr. James M. Lyons officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. The family requests casual attire.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5055 Grandview Road, Hanover, PA 17331.
