Hattie Louise (Nickey) Hoffacker, better known to her friends as Louise Hoffacker, 99 of New Oxford, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 05, 2014 at the Brethren Home Community. She was the loving wife of the late Dr. Henry J. Hoffacker, II, D.D.S. to whom she was married for 50 years.
Born May 10, 1915 in Hanover, she was the daughter of the late John Aaron and Hattie Louella (Kellenberger) Nickey.
Louise attended Eichelberger High School, graduating in 1933 and then moved on to attend Hood College graduating in 1937. Louise was a Home Economics and English teacher in Littlestown for five years before going to work with her husband in his dental office in 1942. Louise worked assisting her husband in the dental office until 1949 when her children were born, then returned again to help in the office in 1976 until her husband’s retirement. She was an active member of St. Mark Lutheran Church for many years, serving as Superintendent of the Kindergarten Department for five years, also serving on church council and choir. Louise actively served as substitute organist for St. Marks and St. Matthew Lutheran Church and had interest in many local musical groups. Louise was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother; she cherished spending time with her family.
Mrs. Hoffacker is survived by two loving sons, Dr. Henry J. Hoffacker, III and his wife Connie of Hanover, Dr. Ralph J.S. Hoffacker of Hanover; and three grandsons Dr. Daniel Hoffacker and his wife Jan of University Park, MD; Richard Hoffacker of Arlington, VA; Michael Hoffacker of Arlington, VA; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate the life of Louise N. Hoffacker will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 129 Charles St. Hanover, with Rev. Eric B. Stenman officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Wetzel Funeral Home & Crematory, 549 Carlisle Street, Hanover and then again on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover. A reception will be held at the Elks Club, 47 N. Forney Ave., Hanover at 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Hoffacker’s memory to either St. Mark Lutheran Church 129 Charles St., Hanover, PA 17331 or the Eichelberger Performing Arts Center, 195 Stock St, Hanover, PA 17331.
