Berniece P. Pitts, 95, of Hanover, passed away Friday, May 8, 2009, at the Hanover Hospital. She was the wife of Donald Ingals Pitts, who died June 18, 1967.
Born January 6, 1914, in Hampstead, Md., she was the daughter of the late Irvin Franklin and Sara May (Tracey) Alban.
Mrs. Pitts was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Hanover. She volunteered as a server for the Saturday Morning Pancake Breakfasts, and was a participating member of Boy Scout Pack 110 as a Den Mother and a member of the Council, having received the award of the Silver Fern.
Surviving are three sons, Edward I. Pitts and his wife, Meredith Leonard of St. Louis, Mo., Richard D. Pitts and his wife, Andra of West Chester, and Douglas I. Pitts and his wife, Patricia of Procter, W.Va.; one sister, Charlotte Ott of Baltimore, Md.; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Pitts will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Wetzel Funeral Home, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, with the Rev. Thomas H. Jacobs officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover.
