Simpson D. "Doc" Deamer, 90, of Hanover, entered into God's eternal care, Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at his home.
Born May 1, 1919, in Hanover, he was the son of the late Martin Ervin Deamer, Sr. and Edith Marie (Walker) Deamer. Doc was the loving husband of Ida M. (Hoffmaster) Deamer until her passing on March 2, 2005.
Doc worked as a pretzel maker at several bakeries throughout the area to include Shultz Bakery, Greenholt Bakery, Wege Pretzel, and Revonah Pretzel where he retired from in 1977.
He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II and a member of LifePoint Church in Reisterstown, MD.
He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Washington Redskins and in his later years enjoyed landscape painting.
Doc leaves behind three children, Yvonne Y. Stough and husband, Ted A. Stough, Jr., Ty W. Deamer and wife, Patricia A. Deamer, and Dawn S. Sterner and husband, Ned L. Sterner, all of Hanover; 7 grandchildren, Kelly A. Hippensteel and husband, Tod A., Brian E. Deamer and wife, Daneill, Colleen R. Umbenhouser and husband, Sean M., all of Gettysburg, Stephanie L. Markle and husband, Scott A., of Hanover, Jill L. Perlick, of Lemoyne, Lance E. Sterner and wife, Amy, of Reading, and Jody M. Rill and husband, Craig A., of Westminster, MD; and 12 great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Doc was preceded in death by his sister, Myrtle M. Deamer and three brothers, Lloyd W. Deamer, Martin Ervin "Junie" Deamer, Jr., and Clifford B. Deamer.
A service to remember and celebrate Doc's life will be held 1 PM, Friday, September 18, 2009, at Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, with his Pastor, The Rev. Joe Duke officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover with full military honors provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. A viewing and time to share memories will be held from 6 - 8 PM, Thursday, at the funeral home.
Serving as casketbearers will be Brian E. Deamer, Lance E. Sterner, Tod A. Hippensteel, Sean M. Umbenhouer, Scott A. Markle, and Craig A. Rill.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions in honor of Doc be made to the American Cancer Society, 924 N. Colonial Avenue, York, PA 17403 or a charity of the donor's choice.
