Sara B. Dietrich, 88, of Hanover, passed peacefully Wednesday evening at home. She was the loving wife of Howard D. Dietrich for 53 years.
Born in Hanover on December 16th, 1920, Sara was the daughter of the late Raymond A. and Laura (Messerly) Barnhart.
Mrs. Dietrich was a member of Lohr’s Memorial United Methodist Church, Hanover. She was employed with Sears as an accounting supervisor for 30 years prior to retiring in 1979. Sara was a faithful American Red Cross volunteer for 35 years, serving in the blood services program, a volunteer at Hanover General Hospital, and a member of the AARP.
In addition to her husband, Howard, Sara’s survivors include a sister-in-law, Bertha Meckley, Hanover; two nieces, Jan Fritz, Hanover, and Beth Line, York; a great-niece Elizabeth Line, New York, NY; a great-nephew, Dr. Christian Line and his wife Sarah, Palmyra, PA; and her devoted friend and caregiver, Sharon Pfaff, Hanover.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Paul Barnhart.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Sara will be held at 10:00 am, Thurs., June 11th from Lohr’s Memorial United Methodist Church, 204 E. Middle St., Hanover with Rev. Samuel Velez officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 9:00 am until the time of service at the church. There will be no public viewing. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover.
