Robert W. Sullivan
February 10, 1927 - April 7, 2011
Robert W. Sullivan, 84 formerly of Grandview Road, Hanover passed peacefully on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Homewood at Plum Creek, Hanover. He was the loving husband of Mary (Sellers) Sullivan who died May 1, 2010.
He was born February 10, 1927 in Hanover the son of the late Paul T. and Anita (Sprenkle) Sullivan.
Mr. Sullivan served his country with the U.S. Navy during WW II in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Intrepid. On April 16, 1945 he received the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during battle. After being wounded, he recovered from his injuries at Treasure Island Hospital in California. Mr. Sullivan was an active member of Hanover First Church of God where he often did volunteer work. Following his retirement from Bethlehem Mines in Hanover where he worked as a millwright for 31 years, he was a school bus driver for South Western School District for 10 years. In addition he worked part time for Shearer’s Florist making deliveries. He enjoyed camping with family and friends, and traveled throughout most of the United States. He enjoyed making stained glass artwork, wood working and player piano restoration as well.
He is survived by his daughter, Gail Toomey and her husband Michael of Hanover; son, Ronald W. Sullivan and his wife Kelly of Hanover; sister, Janet Herman of Hanover; grandchildren, Shaun, Dustin, Tanya, Becky, Niki, Chris and great grandchildren, Cooper and Sophie.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother Donald Sullivan of Miami Florida and his sister Kathleen Hertz of Hanover.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Sullivan will be on Saturday, April 9th at 10:15 AM at Hanover First Church of God, 600 Fairview Drive, Hanover with Pastor Jerry Shoap and Pastor Clair Shorb officiating. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be on Saturday from 9:15 AM until the time of the service at the church. Burial with full military honors conducted by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover.
