OBITUARY
Robert Edward Dean, Jr., 81, of Hanover, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at home surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Frances Sharon (Hank) Dean, Hanover. Together they shared 60 years of marriage.
Born May 7, 1940 in Cumberland, MD, he was the son of the late Robert E. Dean, Sr. and Mary Ellen (Riley) Spiker.
Robert served in the United States Air Force and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hanover. He retired from the Social Security Administration after 37 years of employment. Robert was a self-taught historian and enjoyed building model airplanes.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Patrick Dean, Hanover, Kristen Dubs and husband Peter, Hanover and Leigh Krall and husband Michael, Palm Coast, FL; sister, Linda Taylor, Fort Ashby WV; brothers, Joseph Spiker, Cumberland, MD and David Spiker, Morgantown, WV and grandchildren, Andrea Duran-Dean, Kaitlyn Mummert, Ian Duran, Alyssa Mummert and Adam Dubs.
He was preceded in death by his brother Kevin Spiker.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 11 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5055 Grandview Road, Hanover with Rev. Msgr. James M. Lyons as celebrant. The family will receive friends and share memories on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 from 6 to 8 PM at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover. Burial with full military honors conducted by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover. Serving as pallbearers will be Peter Dubs, Ian Duran, Adam Dubs and Kaitlyn Mummert.
Contributions in memory of Robert E. Dean, Jr. may be made to the American Lung Association, 3001 Gettysburg Rd., Camp Hill, PA 17011.
