Richard E. Reese, passed away Friday, July 8, 2016 at the York Hospital, York, PA.
Born in Hanover on September 28, 1930, he was the son of the late Effie V. (Kemper) and Roy A. Reese.
Richard was a graduate of Eichelberger Senior High School, Class of 1948. He attended Dickenson College until September 1950 when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in June 1951. After completing a year of duty in the Korean Theater of Operations at the Naval base in Yokosuka, Japan he was released from active duty and placed in the stand-by reserve.
Richard spent the next thirty-five years in the banking profession, starting with the First National Bank & Trust of Hanover. In 1959 he accepted a position with the First National Bank of Red Lion which subsequently became Southern Pennsylvania Bank. At that time, he was elected Director and named chief administrative officer. In 1982 Southern Pennsylvania Bank was acquired by Dauphin Deposit Corporation of Harrisburg. Richard was appointed Executive Vice-President and Chief Retail officer of the new bank. He elected for early retirement in 1988.
Richard was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ. He was a life member of Harold H. Bair Post 14 of the American Legion, the AMVETS Post 22, the Hanover Country Club, Marine Corps Heritage Foundation and the Rocky Ridge Hunting Club. Past memberships included Red Lion Lodge No. 649 F&A.M., Harrisburg Consistory A.A.S.R., and Zembo Temple, Harrisburg.
Richard is survived by his long time cherished friend and confidante Antje K. Swartz. He was preceded in death by his wife of thirty-three years, Mary Swope Cornpropst. He is survived by his step son William S. Cornpropst and step grandsons, Jason Cornpropst and Trevor Cornpropst. He is also survived by nephews Robert J. Reese, Larry E. Bream, Frank C. Bream, nieces Pamela Myers and Helen Von Wolffradt. He was preceded in death by 5 siblings.
