Richard W. “Dick” Fox, 93 of Hanover, passed peacefully on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at Hanover Hall. He was married on June 19, 1942 to Sara L. “Sally” (White) Fox his loving wife for exactly 74 years.
Born December 19, 1922 in Pittsburgh, PA he was the son of the late E. Malcolm and Florence (Whiteman) Fox.
Dick was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served his country proudly during WWII. He was a Jr. High School math teacher for 37 years retiring in 1983. Dick was a long time member of First United Methodist Church, Hanover where he served in a variety of capacities including Past President and Treasurer of the United Methodist Men, Church Finance Chairman and delivering tapes of services to shut-ins. In addition to his service to the church, Dick and his wife Sally and family ran United Methodist Summer Camps for youth for several years. Dick also enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing bridge.
In addition to his wife Sally, Dick is survived by four children; Richard W. “Dick” Fox, Jr. and his wife Jean of Baldwinsville, N.Y., Mariles Rush and her husband Donald of Hanover, James E. “Jim” Fox and his wife Mary of Clemens, N.C. and Susan Marquart and her husband Steve of Harrisburg, PA; seven grandchildren, three step grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Dick was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Alsbaugh.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Dick Fox will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at First United Methodist Church, 200 Frederick St., Hanover, PA 17331 with Rev. Gregory H. Rapp officiating. A time to express condolences and to share memories with the family will be on Saturday from 9:30am until the time of service at the church. Final committal will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery where full military honors will be rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
