NORMAN E. KIMMEY, 90, of Hanover entered into God's eteranl care 11:50 A.M. Wednesday morning, August 29, 2007, at Hanover Hospital. He was the loving husband of Garnet K. Yingling Kimmey to whom he married November 15, 1941.
Born in Spring Mills, Carroll County, MD on June 1, 1917, he was the son of the late W. Arthur Kimmey and Sarah Jane (Lippy) Kimmey Keagy. Mr. Kimmey retired as a Machinist after 30 years of employment at York International. He was a member if Immanuel Lutheran Church, Manchester, MD, a 50 year member of the Hanover Moose, and a life member of the Hanover Veterans of Foreign Wars. A decorated combat veteran of World War II, Mr. Kimmey served his country with pride, honor and valor in the European Theater of Operations. As a Corporal attached to the 110th AntiAircraft Gun Battalion, he landed at Normandy on D-Day and fought his way in the Battles and Campaigns for Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was even one of the soldiers mentioned in the book Brave Men by Ernie Pyle. For his service, Corporal Kimmey was awarded the European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars and a Bronze Arrowhead.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Darlene Kelly of Chambersburg, two granddaughters Sarah Kelly of Gaithersburg, MD, Kathryn Thompson and husband Thomas of Fayetteville, PA and a great grandson Clayton Thompson. He was preceded in death by two brothers James and Roy Kimmey.
A Funeral service to remember and celebrate his life will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover.
