Mary “Mitzi” M. Cookerly, 75, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Autumn House East, York, PA.
Born July 24, 1942 in Hanover, PA, she was the daughter of the late David G. and Rufina E. (Lillich) Moul. Mary was the loving wife of the late Fred S. Cookerly who died April 16, 2016 and with whom she shared fifty-three years of marriage.
Mrs. Cookerly was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover, PA, where she served as a greeter for many years.
Mitzi was a 1960 graduate of Eichelberger High School. She was a homemaker, nurse’s aide and a teaching assistant.
Mitzi enjoyed painting until she no longer could due to her M.S. She loved chocolate and dogs.
Mitzi is survived by her children, Fred S. Cookerly, IV and wife Rachel of Rota, Spain, and Jennifer L. Gates and husband Edward of Shrewsbury, PA; four grandchildren, Sydnee Cookerly, Fred Skye Cookerly, Jordan Cookerly and Michael Gates.
A funeral service to celebrate and remember Mitzi’s life will be held 10:30AM, Saturday, May 26, 2018 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with the Rev. Dr. Daniel M. Yeiser officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Friday, May 25, 2018 the funeral home.
Serving as casketbearers will be Thomas Cookerly, John Cookerly, Mike Cookerly, Pat Cookerly, Edward Gates and Todd Oberlander.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mitzi’s name to the American Cancer Society – York/Adams, Attn: Memorial, 924 N Colonial Avenue, York, PA 17403 or to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 2000 Linglestown Road, #201, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
