Joseph F. "Joe" Baker
August 5, 1931 - November 8, 2011
Joseph F. “Joe” Baker, 80, of Glenville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Hanover Hall, Hanover. He was the beloved husband of Marlene G. Baker, his wife of 45 years.
Born August 5, 1931 in Baltimore, he was a son of the late Joseph F. and Helen L. (Fischer) Baker.
Joe worked in production, distribution and warehouse management for many years in both Maryland and Pennsylvania. More recently he was employed in the maintenance department at South Western School District retiring in 2006. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. A true outdoorsman, Joe loved hunting, fishing and camping. A wonderful family man and good handy man, Joe was affectionately referred to as “Mr. Fixit” by his loving wife Marlene.
In addition to his wife he is survived by three children, Douglas Lloyd Baker and his wife Diane, Hanover, Sharon K. Owens, Manheim, PA and Rhonda G. Bankert and her husband Tom, New Oxford, two granddaughters; Jessica L. Baker and Jennifer A. Baker, and six sisters, all from the greater Baltimore, MD area; Charlotte Black, Carolyn Gibbs, Helen Anderson, Joan Ward, Evelyn Shew and Lorainne Masters.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Guest and a brother, Henry Baker.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Baker will be held at 12 noon Friday at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA with Worship Pastor Rick Quinnett, of Calvary Bible Church, officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be held on Friday from 10am until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with military honors provided by members of the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
Contributions may be made in Joe’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
