Joanne G. Harner, 87, of York, PA, entered God's eternal care Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Normandie Ridge Nursing Center, York, PA.
Born April 2, 1931 in Hanover, PA, she was the daughter of the late Richard B. and Etta (Wentz) Garrett. Joanne was the loving wife of the late H. Allen Harner who passed away November 2, 2005.
Mrs. Harner graduated from Eichelberger High School, Hanover, PA, and received her B.S. in Elementary Education from Millersville University.
Joanne was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hanover, PA, the Hanover Country Club, and an active member of the Millersville University Alumni Association. She took great pride and spent many years organizing and planning her Eichelberger High School Class Reunions.
Mrs. Harner retired from the Hanover Public School District, having taught at Hanover Street, Clearview and West Walnut Elementary Schools for many years. She was very devoted to her young learners and how they progressed throughout their academic careers.
Joanne loved to read, play bridge and vacation on the Jersey Shore; but she especially enjoyed spending time with her friends, family, and grandchildren.
Joanne is survived by her sons, Lane G. Harner and wife Sharon of York, PA, and Tad A. Harner of Hedgesville, WV; three grandchildren, Lauren A. Neves and husband Daniel, of Silver Spring, MD, Andrew A. Harner and companion Melissa Noll of York, PA, and Colin G. Harner and wife Amanda of Mt. Wolf, PA; one great-granddaughter, Cali Ann; and a sister, Judith Winebrenner and husband Andrew of Spring Grove, PA.
A service to celebrate and remember Joanne's life will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with Rev. Josh Rhone officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA. A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 9:00-10:00 AM, Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the funeral home. Following inurnment, a celebration of life reception will be held at First United Methodist Church, 200 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joanne’s name to First United Methodist Church, 200 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA 17331 or the Millersville University Alumni Association, Millersville University, P.O. Box 1002, Millersville, PA 17551
