Obituary
James A. Brenner, 98, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Saturday, January 8, 2022, at his home.
Born August 20, 1923, in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ruth E. (Eck) Brenner. James was the loving husband of the late Betty L. (Hankle) Brenner with whom he shared 70 years of marriage until her passing on November 29, 2019.
James was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hanover, PA, and the Hanover Elks Lodge #763.
James was a 1941 graduate of Eichelberger High School and received his bachelor’s degree in Economics from Franklin & Marshall College in 1949. He was the manager of the Proof Reading and Bindery Departments at Doubleday for 45 years until his retirement in 1995.
James served his country proudly in the United States Army during World War II. He was awarded the European–African–Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars as well as the World War II Victory Medal.
James was an avid golfer, reader, loved watching sports of all kinds especially the Baltimore Orioles and both pro and college football.
James is survived by his sons, Andy Brenner and wife Pam, Mike Brenner, and wife Wanda all of York, PA; four grandchildren, Kelly Brenner, and Steve Brenner and wife Katie, all of Lancaster, PA, Kari Worley and husband Kevin of Dillsburg, PA, and Mike Brenner and wife Samantha of Manchester, PA; eight great-grandchildren, Sloane Bretz, Sawyer Duncan, Keegan Brenner, and Mia Brenner all of Lancaster, PA, Mason Brenner and Liam Brenner both of Manchester, PA, and Charlotte Worley and Lila Worley both of Dillsburg, PA. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Francis Brenner, Thomas Brenner, Robert Brenner, Bernard Brenner, Marguerite Myers, Dorothy Fink, Katherine Krzyweicki, and Josephine Smith
A memorial service to celebrate and remember James will be held 11:00AM, Friday, January 14, 2022, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA with the Msgr. James Lyons officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA, with the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard Burial Detail providing Military Honors. A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 10:00-11:00AM, Friday, January 14, 2022, at the funeral home.
