Gilbert “Gil” Fischbach, Jr., 77, of Hanover, beloved husband of Ilde “Inday” Fischbach, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at UPMC Pinnacle Hanover Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born on Thursday, January 6, 1944 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Gilbert Fischbach, Sr. and Dorothy Mae Couch Fischbach. Gil proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. In 2001, he retired from Lucent Technologies after 35 years of service, and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the National Rifle Association and the Doug Hill Gun Club. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 24 years, are three children, Cindy Ryan and her companion, Todd Jacoby, of New Oxford, PA, Gilbert Fischbach, III of Decatur, TX, and Eric Fischbach and his wife, LaVenda, of Hanover; three grandchildren, Andrew Caltrider, and Dylan and Kirsten Fischbach; and a sister, Trish Lea of Coatesville, PA.
A funeral will be held at 10 AM Saturday, January 16, 2021 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1170 Kohler Mill Road, New Oxford with Bishop Brian Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held from 6 to 8 PM Friday at the Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover.
