Fred S. Cookerly, III, 75, of Hanover, PA, entered into God’s eternal care, Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the York Hospital.
Born September 11, 1940 in Harrisburg, PA, he was the son of the late Fred S. and Jean W. (Hoover) Cookerly. Fred was the loving husband of Mary E. (Moul) Cookerly with whom he shared fifty-three years of marriage.
Fred was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover, PA. He was a member of the Hanover Home Association, the VFW Post 2506 of Hanover, PA and the American Legion Post #14 of Hanover, PA. He was a life Member of the TAC Tankers Association.
Fred was a graduate of Eichelberger High School in 1959 and remained the class treasure until his passing. He retired from P.H. Glatfelter in 2004, having worked as a millwright supervisor for over forty years.
Fred was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served his country proudly.
Fred enjoyed collecting toy trains, was a member of the Train Collectors Association, was a NASCAR fan, and an avid fan of University of Alabama Crimson Tide Football team.
Fred is survived by two children, Fred S. Cookerly, IV of Rota, Spain and Jennifer L. Gates of Shrewsbury, PA; four grandchildren, Sydnee M. Cookerly, Fred Skye Cookerly, Jordan C. Cookerly and Michael E. Gates; four brothers, Thomas L. Cookerly of Hanover, PA, Jay P. Cookerly of New Oxford, PA, Mike Cookerly of East Berlin, PA and John Cookerly of Hampton, PA; and two sisters, Donna Oberlander of Biglerville, PA and Deb Quibell of Douglasville, GA.
A funeral service to celebrate and remember Fred’s life will be held 10:30AM, Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with the Rev. Dr. Daniel M. Yeiser officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 6:00-8:00PM Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at the funeral home.
