Daniel E. Pittinger, 76, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at Paramount Senior Living.
Born May 18, 1945 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Charles E. and Mary A. (Witmer) Pittinger.
Daniel graduated from Eichelberger High School in 1963 then went on to receive his bachelor's degree in education from Shippensburg University. Mr. Pittinger taught school for several years then went on to work for 25 years at the H.A.R.T Center in New Oxford. Dan was a lifelong member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Hanover, where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, served on the church council and served as secretary for one year. Dan was very active in his local community, he served on the Hanover Borough Council, was chairman of the zoning board, active in the American Cancer Society and he was elected as president of York County. Daniel also liked to travel, he was very happy that he was able to visit all 50 states and visited 5 continents.
In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his brother, George E. Pittinger.
A service to celebrate the life of Daniel E. Pittinger will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 17, 2021 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 30 W. Chestnut St., Hanover, PA with the The Rev. Dr. Kathy Vitalis Hoffman and The Rev. Faye C. Snyder officiating. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church at the address listed above.
