Obituary
Born on Wednesday, October 6, 1943 in Brooklyn, New York, he was a son of the late Lawrence B. and Ruth Lewis Astrin. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Allen Astrin.
Bruce served with the US Navy and the Maryland National Guard. In 2013, he retired from the Social Security Administration in Baltimore after 30 years of service. He was affiliated with the Hanover Valley Presbyterian Church. An avid Washington Redskins fan, he also enjoyed playing golf. A devoted family man, he was a loving husband, father and was a doting grandfather who took great pleasure in spending time with his family.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 31 years, are his five children, Lisa Astrin and her husband, Michael Griffin, of Reisterstown, MD, Jason Astrin and his wife, Ann, of Southlake, TX, Stephen Astrin and his wife, Cassie, of Gainesville, VA, Sarah Astrin of Glenville and Kimberly Astrin of Hanover; his grandson, Charlie Astrin; a sister-in-law, Katherine Astrin; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John and Doreen Grap and Danny and Carol Dixon; his mother-in-law, Nola McBee; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 2 pm Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with The Rev. Drew Derreth officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
