Andrew W. Durkit, of McSherrystown, passed away at home on May 1, 2023, at the age of 55. He was the beloved husband of Vallee M. (Carlino) Durkit; the loving father of Jack and Benjamin Durkit; the cherished son of Bonnie Durkit; and the dear brother of Steve Allen Durkit, David Herrin, Janet Wojtak, Mollie Lio, DeAnne McCoy and Amy Seiser. He was preceded in death by his father, Steve Durkit.
Andy served in the United States Marine Corps; he was a Desert Storm veteran and specialized in the maintenance and upkeep of light armored vehicles. He was very proud to serve his country.
Andy was an employee at BAE Systems, working on tanks as Assembler 2 and then as a Manual Machine Operator. There, he was a member of the United Steelworker Union. He enjoyed his work and the friends he made there.
Andy lived his life with humor and a zest for adventure; he enjoyed being in nature and liked to hunt and fish. He was a member of the East Berlin Rod and Gun Club; he enjoyed a good golf game and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a kind person who loved his family and friends. He enjoyed a good party and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He was a devoted husband and father who brought so much joy, love, and laughter into our lives. He will be dearly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to a gathering in celebration of Andrew’s life on Thursday, May 11th, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by his Memorial Service, 12:00 p.m., at Murphy-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 501 Ridge Avenue, McSherrystown. Interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
