Albert Nevin Grote

Albert Nevin Grote, 83, of Hampstead died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.
Born June 14, 1924, in Brodbecks, Pa., he was the son of the late Albert Eugene and Bertie Mae Albright Grote. He was the husband of Mildred Katie Berwager Grote, his wife of 62 years.
He was a veteran of the Navy, stationed in the Philippines during World War II on a PT boat and a minesweeper. When he returned from the service, he was owner of Al's Barbershop in Hampstead, where he was known as Al the barber for more than 50 years. He was an avid stamp collector and a member of Grace Bible Church in Manchester. He was an active member and served on the board for both Westminster Rescue Mission and Youth for Christ. In addition, he was a member of Men for Missions.
He enjoyed traveling and went on missions to numerous countries. He was a volunteer with Brethren Home in New Oxford, Pa.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons and daughters-in-law Dale L. and Dianne L. Grote and Dennis L. and C. Elaine Grote, all of Hampstead; daughter and son-in-law Diane M. and Richard B. Jackson of Manchester; a sister, Julian S. Grote of Codorus, Pa.; five granddaughters; one step-grandson; 11 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will held be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Bible Church, 3250 Charmil Drive, Manchester, with the Rev. Paul R. Wenzel officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hanover, Pa.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the church.
